Plant-Derived Cellulose Fibres Guide

Plant-Derived Cellulose Fibres Guide

Viscose, modal and lyocell begin with plant cellulose, usually obtained from wood or bamboo. The raw cellulose is dissolved and reformed into textile fibres, so these materials sit between natural plant fibres and fully synthetic fibres.

Bamboo viscose

Most clothing described as bamboo is bamboo-derived viscose. It is smooth, soft and moisture-absorbent, making it popular for socks and underwear. Read the Bamboo Viscose Guide.

Tencel, lyocell and modal

Lyocell and modal are regenerated cellulose fibres. Tencel is a brand name used for selected lyocell and modal fibres. They are known for softness, drape and moisture management, and are commonly blended with cotton or wool. Read the Tencel, Lyocell & Modal Guide.
