Made to Measure Suits Scotland

Traditional Made to Measure Tailoring at Livingston, Castle Douglas

Livingston has been serving customers in Castle Douglas and across Dumfries & Galloway for more than 130 years. Our Made to Measure service follows that same traditional approach: careful measuring, considered advice and garments chosen for lasting style rather than passing fashion.

We mainly offer Made to Measure two-piece suits, three-piece suits, trousers and Plus Fours. The service is available in-store only, because proper physical measurements and fitting advice are essential. We do not believe a good suit should be ordered from a form alone. Cloth, fit, posture, balance and purpose all need to be considered in person.

Our taste is deliberately classic. A well-cut suit should look right today, next year and in ten years' time. While our style book includes a wide choice of details, our advice usually favours timeless proportions, suitable cloth and practical finishing. Fashion-forward details can date quickly; good tailoring should not.

What We Commonly Make

  • Two-piece suits: A dependable choice for weddings, business, formal occasions and smart everyday wear.
  • Three-piece suits: Jacket, trousers and waistcoat for a more complete outfit, especially popular for grooms and formal events.
  • Made to Measure trousers: Ideal where standard sizing does not give the comfort, rise or finish required.
  • Plus Fours: Traditional countrywear for shooting, field sports, country weddings and sporting occasions.
  • Waistcoats: Available as part of a suit or as a separate garment, with classic options that sit well with tailored trousers.

Classic Style, Properly Advised

Our Bernhardt Made to Measure style book offers a wide range of jacket, trouser and waistcoat options, including different lapels, vents, pockets, waistbands, linings and finishing details. The range is extensive, but choice is only useful when it is guided properly.

For most customers we recommend a restrained, classic route: balanced jacket length, sensible lapel width, traditional pockets, clean trouser lines and cloth chosen for the occasion. A tweed suit for a country wedding, a dark wool suit for formal wear, or Plus Fours for the field should all feel appropriate rather than over-designed.

How the Process Works

  1. Visit the shop: Made to Measure fittings take place in-store at Livingston, Castle Douglas.
  2. Discuss the occasion: We begin with where and how the garment will be worn.
  3. Choose the cloth: We guide you through suitable fabrics, colours, weights and patterns.
  4. Select the style: Jacket, trouser, waistcoat or Plus Four details are chosen with care.
  5. Measurements are taken: Physical measurements and fit observations are recorded in person.
  6. Final fitting: Once the garment arrives, we check the fit and advise on any final adjustments.

Wedding Suits and Country Occasions

Made to Measure is particularly useful for weddings and country occasions, where the outfit needs to feel personal but still appropriate. We regularly advise customers on tweed suits, three-piece wedding suits, matching waistcoats, smart trousers and Plus Fours for events across South West Scotland.

Pricing and Appointments

Prices depend on the garment, cloth and finishing details selected. The best way to receive accurate advice is to visit the shop, see the cloths properly and discuss what you need. For wedding parties or more detailed orders, we recommend contacting us before visiting so we can allow enough time.
